Mada Masr is an online independent bilingual Egyptian newspaper founded by Lina Attalah and a team of journalists in June 2013.

In her lecture Attalah will narrate the conditions that resulted in the closure of Egypt Independent (EI) where she held the position of chief Editor, which in turn gave way to the birth of Mada Masr. Reflecting on issues of autonomy and self-reflexivity in the Egyptian media, Attalah will shed light into their shifting journalistic practice as well as wider challenges facing journalism in Egypt today.
