An artist’s curiosity to learn an old local craft |

Spend several days with Fadwa, one of the older women living in the village of Shatana, and learn to weave baskets. Find a plastic rug and slowly de-thread the carpet, reflecting your own thoughts on the change in the community. Recycle these threads into the basket weave, an act of further reflection on matters of the old and the new. This process of de-threading and basket weaving is carried out throughout the workshop and into the open day when the artist wears the woven basket as a hat.
